Speed cameras in Milan: what the city and the metropolitan area declare

The tool opens on Milan: show the list to see each device with its model and decree. Below, the provincial roads covered by average-speed systems.

In the national register of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, copy of 22 February 2026, the Polizia Locale (local police) of the City of Milan declares 22 speed-measuring devices: 17 fixed, 3 of unstated type, 2 mobile. Of these, 2 are flagged by the city as never switched on. The most common models are the Lindblad & Piana s.r.l. Traffiphot III SR-Photor&V (8, decree 4130) and the KRIA s.r.l. T-EXSPEED V.2.0 (7, decree 5298). The city gives no street names in the register. The metropolitan police of the Città metropolitana di Milano do: they declare 31 average-speed systems on provincial roads such as the Rivoltana, the Paullese and the Cassanese, with kilometre and direction. Across the whole province 113 devices are declared, in 41 comuni. The recorded speed is always cut by 5%, at least 5 km/h.

The city mainly declared fixed devices, of two families: Traffiphot III units under a 2004 decree and T-EXSPEED units under a 2011 decree. Then come three Autovelox 106 described in the notes as a “postazione mobile” (mobile unit), two laser guns and two EnVES systems that the city itself flags as not switched on. The register gives no street for the fixed sites: you will see them from the warning signs that article 142, paragraph 6-bis, requires before every check, or on the fine itself, which states the place and time.

Provincial roads with average-speed checks

The metropolitan police of the Città metropolitana di Milano are among the bodies that fill in the register in most detail: for each gantry they write the road, kilometre, direction and census date. All of their 31 devices are average-speed systems, which time you between two gantries and work out your speed from it.

Some devices appear twice: the notes show that a withdrawn gantry was replaced by a new one at the same point, registered a few weeks later. The table counts the register’s rows as the body wrote them. S.P. means strada provinciale (provincial road) and S.S. strada statale (state road). On these roads the limit often differs from the general one for extra-urban roads: the sign is what counts.

A fine from Milan: what to check

On the fine, find the body (Milan local police or metropolitan police), the device model and its decree, and compare them with the tables above. Then check the speed held: it must be the recorded speed less 5%, at least 5 km/h. The speeding fine page gives the amount and points; the homologated cameras page explains what the quoted decree does and does not show. The amounts are those in force in 2026.
